If you have your own domain name and you want to forward it to your Funpic account, this is how you should do it. Please note that you cannot directly specify Funpic's nameservers in your domain configuration. You must use a forwarding service.

Forwarding services are often available from registrars for free, in which case it is best to use them. However, if your registrar does not offer forwarding for free, there are free third-party services that do.

What domain forwarding does is it points your domain to your forwarding provider's custom page, and then that page either forwards your browser to the destination (Funpic, in this case), or encloses the destination site in a frame, thereby hiding or "cloaking" the Funpic address and leaving your domain address in the Address Bar of browsers.

Now, on to the domain configuration. If your registrar lets you forward your domain and subdomains (if you want to use them) for free, then just follow its own instructions on how to do it. For example, if you have a free .tk domain, the only thing you're allowed to do is forward anyway, so you don't have to worry about any complicated settings. If you registered a domain through registrars such as godaddy.com or mydomain.com, you also have free domain forwarding and "cloaking" or "masking" as some call it. Again, just follow the registrars' instructions.

If, however, your registrar doesn't let you forward your domain for free, or only allows you to forward, for example, 5 subdomain for free, then you should consider using a third-party service. Free DNS management services include www.granitecanyon.com , www.everydns.net , www.afraid.org , and, the most popular, www.zoneedit.com . All of these services have one thing in common: you must set your site's DNS to their respective NS servers. For example, afraid.org's NS servers are NS1.AFRAID.ORG, NS2.AFRAID.ORG, NS3.AFRAID.ORG, and NS4.AFRAID.ORG.

Every registrar has a different way of setting up DNS information. You should follow their instructions on how to do so. Once you know how to do it, you should pick one of the free services mentioned above (or if you know of another one, please reply to this post) and register. Once you have registered, change your domain's NS servers to those of the service you picked, and set up forwarding from that service's website.

Please note that NS changes may take up to 48 hours to propagate! Until the changes have propagated, you or others will not see any changes in your domain.

Here is how the forwarding would be done for afraid.org, valid as of July 14, 2005:

The nameservers can be found here: http://freedns.afraid.org/domain/add.php or they should just be NS1.AFRAID.ORG, NS2.AFRAID.ORG, NS3.AFRAID.ORG, and NS4.AFRAID.ORG.

Once you have changed the nameservers, you may need to wait a while. Then you can proceed to register your domain at afraid.org. You should enter your domain (without "http://" or "www.") on this page: http://freedns.afraid.org/domain/add.php and follow the instructions to finish registering it. When you have done so, go here: http://freedns.afraid.org/subdomain/ and see what you have in there. If you have a bunch of unnecessary defaults like mail.[yourdomain].[tld], you can safely delete them. You should not delete [yourdomain].[tld] and www.[yourdomain].[tld] because they are necessary.

Instead, you may want to forward [yourdomain].[tld] to www.[yourdomain].[tld] so that if you ever change one, you won't have to change the other. To forward, click on [yourdomain].[tld]. If the title (on the top blue bar) is not "Edit a Web Forward record", then click "Forward to a URL" above the bottom blue bar.

In the "Redirect to:" field, enter "http://www.[yourdomain].[tld]" and click "save".

Now that that's done, you can finally redirect your domain to Funpic! Follow the above instructions for forwarding [yourdomain] to www.[yourdomain], except this time forward www.[yourdomain] to your Funpic address, which is [your-username].[first-two-letters-of-your-username].funpic.org. You can also enable "cloaking" on that page.

When your changes are saved, your website should be accessible from your domain. If that has not happened, make sure you have waited long enough for the changes to propagate. If there is still a problem after you have waited long enough, go over all the settings for both your registrar info and the forwarding service provider info and make sure they are correct.
