In my opinion the best forum and also the forum software of Funpic.org
sample: http://help.he.funpic.org/forums/phpBB2/ (no addons, standard style, everything standard)
1. download the forum at http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php
2. unzip it and upload it to your webspace
3. activate your MySQL database at http://www.funpic.org/mysql.php
4. open phpBB2 with the browser
5. now follow the instructions and enter the following:
Database Type: MySQL 4.x
Install method: Install
Database Server Hostname / DSN: localhost
Your Database Name: your_username
Database Username: your_username
Database Passwort: your_password
Prefix for tables in database: you can choose anything, like phpBB_ or forum_ (for multiple installations the prefixes have to be different)
6. delete the install/ and contrib/ directories
7. enjoy your new phpBB2

i have foled around with e107 for a mounth now
and i think this one are better then all the other together
and like PHPBB then this one also are for free
this one are even better then vbulletin and al the others i think
i have try'ed them all and e107 are best or have the best best plugins

I'm assuming Raven is talking about e107's forum section. It is nice, I like it. But e107's main purpose is still CMS, not forum with extra stuff.
