That really sucks.. Funpic is a dream host for me but I run a martial arts site.. A lot of my expected traffic comes from Japan. They can't even see my web pages..  I'm surprised you are getting many DoS attacks from Japan.. I would expect that to be a Chinese, Vietnam and maybe Korea thing.. Is there any way you can re-look at lifting the ban on Japanese traffic? Maybe you could keep the registration restrictions going to Japanese traffic but allow them to access hosted sites? |

DoS : Denial of Service
Flood a server untill it crashes
DDoS : Distributed Denial of Service
Distribute a virus or something, which flood a server when they recieve a packed from a master
DDoS's also can be done from websites, with javascript, or stuff like that.

often DDoS is done through irc bots, installed on infected pc's, all connecting to one specific server and channel, where the attacker can just log in, enter the channel, and give all the bots commands to target a specific server.
all you have to do to prevent your pc from being used in such an attack, is checking if it's connecting to a irc server that you do not know about :) |

easier said than done.
a game server of mine (i am not releasing name or info about it) has been victim to many DoS attacks because the kid was mad at me for ip banning him from it... he found this DoS attacking bot, which all you had to do was type in the ip and it would perform the DoS automatically, and used it ALOT... |
