That's not entirely true. In a lot of cases, Flash is used to make animations because of its flexibility. A basic standard in webdeveloping is: if you can do it in HTML, do it in HTML. Flash is used for animated content, or things that can't be achieved with just HTML. For instance, flash is more reliable to play music than javascript, so if you wanted to play music, you could insert the flash file with music onto your page. Flash isn't anymore neat than HTML is, because of ActionScript, the programming language used to control flashes behaviors.
What is the significance of flash? Well, it's there because it flexible and can do almost anything and can emulate almost anything that java can do and more. Flash is also installed on 99% of browsers today, so I think most people will be able to view it. But, Flash is... Flashy! Flash is basically something to aid in webdesign where other programming languages can't.
Flash kind of is a necessity, because with out it, you might not get to see the full view of the website which means you're missing out. |
